Denis Esakov about his photo series:
“I was in St. Petersburg for two weeks, where I spent my vacation with my family. Aalto had known about the library for a long time, had seen it filmed by other photographers, so he immediately planned one day for a trip to Vyborg to take it off.
I was very pleased with the really good restoration of the building. I was impressed by the functional thoughtfulness of the library interiors. Thanks to the assistance of the library management, I was able to photograph both the book depository and the roof with skylights.
There is a lot of light in the interior, which makes it difficult to shoot, but, in general, it was very cool to photograph this masterpiece by Aalto - a kind of perfect, very beautiful, thought out in the details world. Two armchairs in the corner near the entrance under the skylight - a place where one would like to read books in the midday heat. This particular corner seemed to me very futuristic: alluring, wonderful, in dreams for some reason sterile future that awaits me ahead."
