Project of the annexed territory of the natural-historical park "Kuzminki-Lyublino"

Where: Russia Moscow
function: Landscape / Park
workshop:

Praktika Architectural Bureau /

Alphabet City /

architect: Anna Andreeva, Maria Ashkova

The project was developed by the landscape bureau Alphabet City together with partners - the architectural bureau Praktika.

Architectural Bureau Practice:

“The materials presented in this publication are a project proposal, not everything has been approved by the customer at the moment. The design boundaries cover a significant area of the Kuzminsky forest park, from st. Marshal Chuikov and the Volzhskaya metro station to the eastern end of the Upper Kuzminsky pond, but now it is clear that implementation will be possible on a much smaller area. It is too early to talk about the extent to which the project will be implemented. In any case, work on the improvement of the park will begin only after receiving positive conclusions from the state environmental, historical and cultural expertise."

Anna Andreeva:

“Our concept unites four disparate identities of the park area: the Park of Culture and Leisure, the Museum complex of the Golitsin estate, the Historical Landscape Park around the ponds and the forest. We offered to connect them with the help of landscape solutions around the ponds and the Ponomarka river. We analyzed the vantage points along the ponds and created our landscape route - a system of subtle point interventions that help visitors better interact with the water and reveal park views.

A short path through the park - the central axis - string together three main large centers - the so-called "hearts of the park". These are places at the intersection of streams of visitors with excellent views of the water, where additional functions appear - beautiful pavilions of cafes and rentals, playgrounds.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to touch the historical part of the park, since during the design process it turned out that a restoration project was being developed for this territory, so the project will be implemented on a smaller scale. It is a pity, since our main principle of work in parks is to create a new functional environment for residents and at the same time delicately fit our solutions into the surrounding landscape.

And our attitude to the literal restoration of the landscape was best expressed by Academician Dmitry Sergeevich Likhachev in his book Poetry of Gardens: the needs and tastes of which they were connected. There are no more monarchs, no landowners with their garden entertainments, no hundreds of gardeners and garden workers. … Therefore, the task of gardeners should now be to extend the life of those remnants of the gardening arrangement that can be supported."

We also believe that it is more correct in the 21st century to make a beach with playgrounds and sports grounds on a vacant lot near the water than to restore a meadow in this place where cows used to be grazed, especially since now this meadow is already used by residents as a beach.

An important part of our concept is the children's play route. Nowadays, playgrounds with good equipment appear in parks, but often it is too much for one place. Our game strategy assumes a route from small playgrounds, which children “find” in interesting places. For example, a swing in old apple trees, or a loose bridge in a tunnel of bushes, or slides in the hills.

For us, as landscape architects, it was important to make our decisions as invisible as possible. The small shapes that we use in the project merge with nature. The benches are gray, the playgrounds are made of wood, covered with bark or sand. For lighting, we use inconspicuous modern lamps that only shine downward and do not light up the sky and the park.

When developing the flower beds, we used only local plants, since the entire park is a specially protected area."
