This is the central building of the campus of the University of Luxembourg in Esch-sur-Alzette. It is located on the site of a large steel plant in the Belval region: now this area is being built up with university buildings, offices and laboratories of the "Science Town", as well as housing, cultural institutions, etc.
The Knowledge House responds to the industrial past of the site: the 18-storey building is the same size as the steel furnaces located here. It houses lecture and seminar audiences, lecturers' offices, administrative premises, canteens.
Classrooms and classrooms form a network of walkways, bridges and "squares" associated with the outer space. Stairways lead to the upper part of the building, at the same time serving as light wells. A garden is arranged on the fourth floor of the horizontal part with a cantilever extension.
The facades of the building are closed from the outside with a steel grating that protects the interior from the heat of the sun.
