The new sports building serves simultaneously two adjacent gymnasiums - named after Johannes Kepler and named after Alexander von Humboldt. Also in its three gyms are students from other schools and associations of the center of Ulm.
The new building is an important part of the Strategy for the Future - City Center 2020 development plan. Within its framework, it is planned to return Olgastrasse Street, where the gym is located, to its former appearance with imposing 19th century buildings and boulevard-style landscaping.
The façade of the new building with aluminum slats resembles a curtain; depending on the nature of the premises behind it, this "curtain" is made transparent or opaque. Thus, the architects thought of perspective views from the street to the gyms to create a connection between the interior and the city around, as well as explain to pedestrians the purpose of the building, which is difficult to recognize by its appearance.
The key place in the interior is occupied by the "sculptural" staircase, which connects all three tiers of the building.
