In August, one of the Samara squares turned into a huge "canvas" for street art masters - the StreetArtFest festival took place in the city. For the main project of the festival - "City Morphology" - the architects have prepared five art objects, five "citations" of Samara architecture. These are "Old Samara", "Constructivism", "City Coast", "Modern" and "Sleeping District". All installations were subsequently finalized, more precisely, interpreted by the artists participating in the festival.
Constructivism
Architects: Dmitry Khramov, Alena Katkasova, Anastasia Romeiko
This object demonstrates the method of shaping, characteristic of many works of constructivism: a wedge cutting into a circle. Architects drew an analogy with
A kitchen-factory, which in the plan is a sickle and a hammer.
Samara Art Nouveau
Architects: Dmitry Khramov, Alena Katkasova, Anastasia Romeiko
The inspiration for this installation was the industrial buildings of the Art Nouveau era. The object was built of cast-iron columns and an arched truss, the bending line of which is dictated by the motives of architecture of the turn of the XIX - XX centuries. The columns themselves belong to one of the Samara industrial buildings of that period. The painting of the plane of the arch was also made in a calligraphic format, close to Art Nouveau ornamentalism.
Old Samara
Architects: Dmitry Khramov, Maria Khramova
This object is an "imprint" of a house almost lost, like all Samara wooden architecture. The mural, made on stencils of wood carvings, is complemented by a destroyed brick firewall wall sandwiched in wrought iron grates.
Dormitory area
Architects: Dmitry Khramov, Alena Katkasova, Anastasia Romeiko
The laconic composition of two concrete walls reflected the image of panel houses from the "sleeping" areas. A blind corner without windows, according to the architects, symbolizes the marginality of the “neighborhood environment”.
City coast
Architects: Dmitry Khramov, Ivan Shchekaev, Alena Katkasova, Anastasia Romeiko
The composition is based on the location of production and communal storage facilities on the river bank, which is typical for Samara and for other industrial cities of Russia. This installation is a set of symbols: a cistern with the inscription "Water" is a symbol of the Volga, a farm-bridge is a symbol of Samarskaya Luka, and sand symbolizes the beaches of both sides of the city.
