The leading university for training personnel for the mineral resource complex of the country, St. Petersburg Mining University, for its 240th anniversary in 2013, received an excellent gift - the Gorny MCF was put into operation.
This complex with a total area of more than 240 thousand square meters. m. occupies an entire block and includes dormitories for students, a hotel, housing for employees and teachers, educational and sports buildings, as well as spaces for exhibitions and scientific events.
The general designer, Shenderovich's architectural studio, began work on the new building of the Mining Institute back in 1998, and the implementation of the entire complex of buildings, which began in 2006, lasted almost ten years and ended with the commissioning of the last academic building in 2015. A large plot of land on the territory of the former bus depot, located in fact in the "Soviet" part of Vasilievsky Island, adjoins the buffer zone of the historical center, which determines the volumetric-spatial solutions and height characteristics of buildings.
The compositional basis is the pedestrian zone in the middle of the block, which divides the complex into 2 parts, and from the side of Maly Prospekt V. O. and from the side of Nakhimov Street there is an urban planning accent - a residential tower with a height of 54 m.
The architects were faced with the task of creating a decent look for the facilities of one of the largest and oldest educational institutions in the country. In the conditions of strict high-rise regulations and regular quarterly development, the façade has become the main field for expressing the author's artistic intent. The work with classical facade elements and the elaboration of the details of the architectural appearance of the building made it possible to use, along with natural stone, various collections of bricks from the Terca factories of the Wienerberger concern, supplied to the object by the Slavdom company.
The dominant artistic element is architectural masonry with rusts, cornices, belts, bay windows - in the project there are 16 types of natural stone and bricks of different shades and textures of surfaces from 8 collections
Terca. The wide range of brick colors allowed to give the building a complex and rich appearance. Only the main field of the walls is made of light bricks of the collections: HILLA, KUURA with three different types of texture: square, reef or rough; the architects applied an even wider range of colors and textures of bricks to the decor elements.
For the design of the first floors and large vertical accents, materials from the RED, MRT 60 PUNAINEN, VAT OLD TERRA collections, which have a darker red hue, were used. In the complex details of the facade decor, there are also bricks of the colors NRT N PUNAINEN, NRT PUNAINEN HOLKKA, NRT KUURA HOLKKA, NRT KAAKAONRUSKEA HOLKKA in various designs - corner and radius with a smooth surface.
To erect the walls of this complex - a whole block of buildings, the company"
Slavdom supplied large-format porous blocks POROTHERM 1 NF and 2 NF from the Wienerberger concern and stainless steel reinforcement Murfor.
Built on the border of the cultural heritage protection zone for a serious educational institution, the Gorny MFC has formed a new environment around and within itself. Bicentennial history of the brick manufacturer - concern
Wienerberger - and the highest quality of Terca factories leaves no doubt about the long and successful life of the new complex.
