LafargeHolcim Sustainable Building Foundation is accepting applications for the most significant international competition for sustainable building projects - LafargeHolcim Awards. This year, the competition, designed to identify the most promising ideas for solving urgent problems of increasing urbanization and improving the quality of life, will be held for the fifth time.
The authors of projects and concepts in the fields of architecture, landscape design, technology, urban and civil engineering and materials technology can apply for the prize of two million dollars. The works of the participants must be submitted to the jury no later than March 21, 2017.
The main category of the competition is open to the participation of architects, planners, engineers, students studying in specialized specialties, developers, builders and construction companies who take a responsible approach to solving the key problems of modern construction. Projects must be cutting-edge examples of design ideas, have a high likelihood of implementation, and construction on them must not begin earlier than July 4, 2016.
During the competition, the jury will select not only advanced professional, but also daring innovative projects. For ideas that combine sustainable building solutions with architectural beauty, the Next Generation category is open to students and professionals under the age of 30, regardless of the feasibility of their proposed projects.
An application for participation in the competition can be submitted using the Internet form, where you should indicate: authorship, a brief description and technical characteristics of the project with images or illustrations attached. Applications are accepted only in English. Detailed evaluation criteria and guidelines for submitting tender documents are contained in a step-by-step guide at www.lafargeholcim-awards.org.
LafargeHolcim Awards are traditionally held in five geographic regions, each of which has a separate jury of renowned professionals. Participants' projects will be assessed comprehensively, from the point of view of the entire cycle of their implementation, taking into account the specifics of the region for which they are intended, and the five main problems of sustainable construction. Evaluation criteria include: innovation and feasibility; ethical standards and social inclusion; resource consumption and environmental performance; cost-effectiveness and compatibility, as well as the contextual and aesthetic impact of the project.
The 2017 regional juries are headed by Harry Gagger (Europe), Ray Cole (North America), Angelo Bucci (Latin America), Nagwa Sheriff (Middle East and Africa) and Donald Bates (Asia Pacific).
The LafargeHolcim Awards regional stage laureates will be announced at five awards ceremonies that will take place in succession in the second half of 2017. Winners will automatically be included in the 2018 International Competition.
