LafargeHolcim Awards, the most significant competition in the field of sustainable construction, closes applications on March 21, 2017. The competition considers professional projects, as well as bold ideas and concepts in the field of architecture, landscape and urban design, technology, urban and civil construction, new technologies and materials. The 5th LafargeHolcim Awards has a prize pool of $ 2 million.
LafargeHolcim Awards are consistently held regionally and globally. The first stage takes place in five regions. Independent Regional Juries, composed of renowned experts, are chaired by Gary Gugger (Europe), Ray Cole (North America), Angelo Bucci (Latin America), Nagwa Sheriff (Middle East and Africa) and Donald Bates (Asia Pacific).
Regional winners will be selected in the second half of 2017 and announced at an awards ceremony in each region. The projects that won the first place will participate in the second, global stage of the competition in 2018. The total prize fund of the 5th LafargeHolcim Awards is two million US dollars. The competition is organized by the LafargeHolcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction, supported by the LafargeHolcim Group, a world leader in the production of building materials.
Competition nominations
The main nomination of the LafargeHolcim Awards is open to the participation of architects, builders, engineers, builders, project founders, companies that create solutions in the field of construction and architecture, taking into account the principles of sustainable development. The project submitted for the competition must be at the final design stage with a high degree of probability of execution; its implementation - started no earlier than July 4, 2016.
Students and professionals under the age of 30 can take part in the "New Generation" nomination. It explores concepts with great potential, bold ideas and innovative, creative solutions at every stage of development and implementation.

Criteria for evaluation
Participants' projects are evaluated according to five main criteria for sustainable construction, namely:
• A holistic, integrated view of sustainable development, innovation and replicability at the same time;
• Ethical standards and social inclusion;
• Resource consumption and environmental performance;
• Economic rationale, universality and applicability, • Contextual and aesthetic impact of the project.

The LafargeHolcim Awards for sustainable construction have been running since 2005. Every two years, independent juries in five regions select and award the most promising projects aimed at solving urgent problems of urbanization and improving the quality of life through architectural and construction solutions.
LafargeHolcim Sustainable Building Foundation
Since 2003, the Foundation has been expanding the discourse of sustainable building and through the holding of international competitions, scientific, forums and expanding the knowledge base. The foundation operates under the auspices of LafargeHolcim, a world leader in the production of building materials, but independent of the company's commercial interests.
