The site in the Dommeldange (Dummeldeng) area is distinguished by a complex configuration - it is stretched along a bend in the road, topography (a height difference of 10 m) and close proximity to natural monuments - 300-year-old trees. Despite this, city norms provided for the construction of a conventional block building there, several stories high. In response, Metaform architects proposed a more original solution that takes into account not only the context, but also the comfort of future residents.
According to the authors of the project, many buyers of apartments choose them only because they do not have enough money for their own house: therefore they are ready to put up with life in a "faceless box", often with a shortage of sunlight and pleasant views from the windows, as well as space and visual and sound isolation from neighbors. Therefore, the architects decided, if possible, to eliminate these disadvantages of the apartment compared to the villa in their residential complex. In addition, they took into account the architectural environment: a large apartment building on one side and small houses on the other, so their residential complex looks like a curved chain of six small volumes of complex shape, which also made it possible to bypass the difficulties mentioned above. The house has an identity and a human scale, the windows face the natural landscape and let in enough sunlight, while protecting the residents from prying eyes.
The corridors were abandoned, as too often these are dark and uncomfortable spaces, unfavorable from the point of view of the acoustic insulation of apartments. Instead of them, three stairways are arranged, allowing you to get to yourself directly from the underground garage. You can meet your neighbors without accidentally bumping into the corridor - which is not always pleasant, but deliberately - in the common kitchen and living room. There are spacious storage rooms in the basement for all residents. Also, the absence of corridors made it possible to make the apartments open on three sides.
The ventilated facades are clad in triangular aluminum panels, selected for their ease of use. Green components include increased shell insulation, a centralized ventilation system, and rooftop solar collectors.
