The Nieuw Bergen complex of several buildings will fit into the existing dense development, so the theme of sunlight - how to get enough without obscuring the neighboring buildings - was an acute issue for the architects. The way out was an angle of 45 degrees: this is exactly the slope of the roofs of the new residential complex. This solution is also ideal for green roofing and solar panels, and it resembles traditional pitched roofs, adding variety to the urban landscape.
In addition to eco-components, the architects placed collective gardens and "greenhouses" for the residents' recreation at the top. In addition, the site will become much more permeable than it is now, turning into a "mosaic" of residential buildings and public spaces.
The neutral colors of the facades - ranging from white to gray - are enlivened by a variety of materials and textures (glazed ceramic tiles, stone, wood, concrete details), shapes and sizes of windows and balconies.
In Nieuw Bergen, on a total area of 28,700 m2, 242 apartments are planned for sale and for rent, 1,700 m2 of commercial space, 270 m2 of urban gardens and underground parking.
