The Maersk Tower, which was opened with the participation of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark in 2017, complements the main building of the Panum Faculty of Medical Sciences, a building in the spirit of brutalism: a new building with a height of 75 meters (15 floors) echoes with the color and rhythm of the facades.

The structure was placed on a complex base with a green roof, which allowed it to fit into the landscape of the new park (SLA bureau) and the environment of the adjacent urban areas. The significant size of the tower is concealed by automatic one-story high-rise automatic shutters sheathed with brass, which open to protect the glass facades in sunny weather. The choice of material is a nod to the copper-sheathed spiers of Copenhagen churches, as prominent in the cityscape as the Maersk Tower. The strong relief created by the rows of shutters eliminates the potential "turbulence" that often occurs at the base of smoother high-rise buildings.

The three-story base of the building houses streaming and seminar audiences (the largest - for 504 seats), a "demonstration" laboratory, conference rooms, a dining room, a book cafe and a lobby, where a large wooden staircase also plays the role of a space for students to socialize and relax. Above are laboratories and research rooms. The total area of construction is 42,700 m2, the budget is about 200 million euros. You can take a virtual tour of the building

An atrium with a spiral wooden staircase stretches along the entire height of the tower. Adjacent to it on each floor is a "scientific plaza", a meeting place for students, teachers, scientists. This area is displayed on the facade with a glass strip without shutters, so from there you can admire the views of the Danish capital.

Among the eco-components of the project, in addition to the facade and green roofs, there is rainwater collection in the park (it is used for irrigation of greenery and sanitary needs), active use of energy released during the work of laboratories, a seawater cooling system, etc. As a result, the building consumes a maximum of 40 kWh / m2, which is half that of a conventional laboratory building. There are parking spaces for 2,350 bicycles, of which 950 are in the basement, the rest are in the open air.
