The new building of the Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá hospital continues the brick theme of the complex, but El Equipo Mazzanti's architects have abandoned the usual, solid walls. Instead, they preferred to treat brick as a permeable fabric: using a system of metal fasteners and cables, the facades are made openwork, changing the density, pattern, and masonry.
One of the reasons for this approach was the desire to provide patients with sunlight, which, as many studies prove, promotes a speedy recovery. The same purpose is served by the "solarium" with a winter garden on the ninth floor, where patients, directly or with the help of glazed "capsules", can be in a sunny and green space.
The authors of the project have not forgotten about the city either: their building is inscribed in the environment with the help of the base of the first floor with a landscaped area on its roof. Commercial space, including a coffee shop, and a multifunctional auditorium are also located there.
