On Monday, he was still attending a dinner in honor of Tadao Ando at the Pompidou Center, according to the Libération newspaper. The architect was 80 years old. Paul Andrew is best known for the airport buildings, which he designed and built about twenty around the world: in Bordeaux and Nice, Abu Dhabi, Jakarta, Chile, Athens, Cairo, Brunei, Bangkok, Osaka, Guadeloupe, Dubai; the new terminal of Ataturk Airport in Istanbul. However, Andre's portfolio includes no less stadiums, public and office buildings.
His projects - the French terminal Cité Europe of the Channel Tunnel and the Arch of Defense - the latest in the concept of Johann Otto von Sprehelson, who won the competition.
The architect worked a lot in China - he designed, in particular, the French Embassy in Beijing and
The Great People's Theater and the Oriental Arts Center in Shanghai. Its buildings tend to be laconic but expressive - in Osaka, for example, Andre built the Maritime Museum in the form of a glass ball.
One of the most famous buildings of Andreux is the Paris Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport, the main building of which was built in 1967-1974. The development of the airport continued until 2003, but in 2004 a tragedy struck - the E2 section of the terminal, built by Andrø a year earlier, collapsed, four people died. The architect perceived this tragedy as deeply personal; he did not work for a long time. Andrö's recent buildings include the opera house in the Chinese city of Jinan and the city hall in his hometown of Bordeaux.
