The WeGrow school for children ages three to nine is the idea of the international coworking operator WeWork. The school is located at the headquarters of this company in the New York area of Chelsea. In the future, it is planned to create a whole network of such educational institutions designed to develop in children their "superpowers"
At the heart of the project, both spatial and ideological, is the rejection of the usual hierarchical system (teacher guiding students) and the layout of a series of clearly divided rooms. Instead, the teacher acts not as an indisputable authority, but as a co-author of the child, and the interior is devoid of sharp corners, its free plan is divided only by partitions-shelves as tall as a child. This allows natural light to penetrate as deeply as possible into rooms.
The architects chose an oval shape as a key: these are various kinds of seats, shelter modules, and acoustic objects made of felt (they are given natural patterns - coral, fingerprint, etc.). In addition to four classrooms, on an area of 930 m2 there are multifunctional workshops and a studio, a public area, an art and music studio, and “play landscapes”.
A kind of coworking space has been created in the lobby, where parents can not only wait for their child or chat with him in the middle of the day, but also work.
