The competition for the concept of the Park of Future Generations, which will occupy an area of 2.4 hectares within walking distance from the center of Yakutsk, was announced at the end of November. The initiator was the Trust Fund for Future Generations of the Republic of Sakha. The organizer is the Agency for Strategic Development CENTER. The contestants were faced with the task of creating an urban space of a new type for the Russian Far North: the most functional, innovative, cost-effective and year-round use. According to the expectations of the city and republican authorities, the park should meet the needs of people living in extreme natural and climatic conditions, and reflect national identity, peculiarities of life in the north-east of Siberia.
The projects were developed by five qualified teams. On January 23, the jury, chaired by Aysen Nikolaev, the head of the Sakha Republic, considered all the concepts of the finalists of the competition and chose the winner live. A video recording of the final meeting can be viewed here, and we present the winning project, which is planned to be implemented by 2022, and the concepts of all finalists.
First place
ATRIUM, East +
The Sakha_Z project combines the functions of a park and an urban event center. The architectural concept is based on a modern rethinking of the ancient Yakut epic, cultural images, symbols, ornaments. Also, the architects were inspired by the local nature with its alases, meanders of rivers, crystals of permafrost. All this, together with the technological equipment of the park (including the climate correction system) and a well-developed event program, aroused great sympathy of the jury and allowed the project to confidently take a leading position.
Separately, it is worth noting the SAXAblock "constructor" proposed by the authors. This is a universal modular architectural and landscape system with which you can create comfortable public spaces not only in this particular area, but also in any city of the Far North.
The central place in this project is occupied by an area in the form of an old Yakut calendar, which also symbolizes the main deity of the Sakha people - the White Sun. Around the square there is a complex of buildings-hills, inside of which there is an information center, a youth center, a greenhouse and an art park. Developing the theme of the transfer of cultural heritage to future generations, the architects assume that with each next generation the park will grow and develop as a living organism - new public spaces and activities will appear here that are relevant for the residents of the surrounding area and the entire city.
Third place
ABTB, Anku Gasic
The multifunctional park combines three spaces at different levels, each of which symbolizes a generation: past, present and future. The central figure is the "Guardians of Generations" art object, symbolizing the unification of the three worlds. All-season use of the park is planned to be achieved through a system of hybrid spaces, where a comfortable temperature regime is always maintained.
Fourth place
iCube, SmartHeart Agency, Project Group 8, PB Start, Landscape Center of Yakutia
The project is "saturated" with mythology and ancient traditions of the Yakut people. Visitors to the park will be able not only to relax here, but also to learn how to gain energy and cleanse themselves of bad thoughts. And a meeting with some art objects can significantly affect human nature.
Fifth place
Wowhaus, Gorproekt
The inspiration for this project was the Lena River flowing through the whole of Yakutia. The river has a recognizable visual image, which is reflected in the landscaping drawing. And the tributaries of the river - the paths of the park - lead to recreation areas for different age groups. The architecture of buildings and small forms is traditional for this area, but received a modern look and functionality.
