The house for 26 apartments appeared next to the former textile factory Can Batlló: now its historical complex and adjacent territories are undergoing reconstruction. The block of the building, close in plan to the square, received three facades: the main one faces the narrow Parseris street, the lateral one - on an even narrower passage to the new park, where the third facade faces. Depending on the urban planning situation, the windows on each of the outer walls are also located differently, although the resulting asymmetric pattern is also influenced by the layout of the apartments. The windows vary in width, although one, two or three connected modules remain vertical. They are protected from the sun by aluminum shutters.
The main entrance is marked by a "portico" and the decoration of the first tier with dark corrugated sheets of metal: together this creates the effect of the "floating" of the upper floors, giving the house a visibility in the building strip. In addition, the colonnade increases the pedestrian space in front of the park entrance and hides the entrance to the underground garage for 31 cars. Behind the lobby, from where a closed staircase and elevators lead up, there is a store room, above which is the most interesting component of the project: the courtyard. Architects call it the oculus, through which sunlight and moonlight enters the house, and a piece of the sky is always visible. There is a “flowerbed” at ground level. Galleries and the patio itself are not only the main circulation center, but also serve for meetings and communication of neighbors, joint games and other entertainments. The passages are covered with openwork metal screens.
The role of the yard as a "hood" is important, extracting warm air and unpleasant odors from the apartments. It also serves for natural light: as a result, all rooms in all apartments have windows - except for the laundry room.
Thanks to the courtyard, it was possible to accommodate six apartments with two or three bedrooms on each floor. The exception is three four-bedroom duplexes, two of which are located on the sixth, top floor. The uneven height of the house is related to local norms: where it adjoins the neighboring, higher building, it was even possible to make seven floors (if we count the upper tier of the duplexes and the technical block as a floor), there are only five of them on the opposite side.
