The residential East 34th tower with a height of 232 meters is proposed for a site near the Empire State Building. Ma Yansong and his colleagues developed the project in the spirit of their ideas about a new organic architecture, more humane and humanistic than the currently prevailing one. The streamlined volume of the skyscraper with a hinged glass facade in a rich dark tone received a transparent finish, as if dissolving in air.
The East 34th is contrasted by its authors to the surrounding skyscrapers with clear outlines, monuments of the "bygone industrial age": it softens the skyline of Manhattan and offers a new type of "urban nature".
The podium will be occupied by commercial and public spaces, as well as a multi-storey atrium with a green wall and a series of double-height public spaces. The total area of the building will be over 11 thousand m2.
