The Lower Austria Gallery contains art from the state collection of this land and from private collections. The new building serves as the gateway to the Krems Cultural Mile ensemble and also underlines the city's role as the starting point of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Wachau wine-growing Danube valley.
The project Marte. Marte Architekten convinced the jury of the All-European competition in 2015 with its “great precision” and similarity to “graceful sculpture”. The spectacular curvature of the building's volume is determined by two directions of movement - towards the historic center of Krems and towards the Danube. The façade of 7,200 titanium-zinc flakes accentuates the building's shape, while the glazed arched openings on the ground floor make it more accessible.

The exhibition space with a total area of 3,000 m2 is distributed over five floors, including an underground one, which connects the new building with the Kunsthalle Krems, a museum of contemporary art.
The total area of the museum was almost 7000 m2, the budget was 35 million euros.
