Apple Aventura store is located in Aventura Mall, one of the largest shopping centers in the United States (it is placed in second or third place in the ranking). The mall has been opened since 1983 in the new city of Aventura, which has been implemented as a development project since the early 1970s: both the shopping center and the "settlement" gravitate towards the nearby Miami.
It was Miami that inspired the architects Foster + Partners and their collaborating Apple designers, led by Jonathan Ive, to use precast concrete structures reminiscent of the sea, ships and Art Deco. Also the project continues in the choice of materials
Apple headquarters line.
Concrete beams, 24.3 m long, span 18.2 m spans between steel columns hidden in concrete "casings". Vaults with a width of 6 m are placed between the beams; for the sake of damping noise, they are closed in the interior with white cloth. The shape of the vaults displayed on the facade is slightly reminiscent of
airport in Jordan by the same architects, as well as their Buenos Aires City Hall.
The vaulted roof is used to collect rainwater, which will save up to 650,000 liters per year - an extremely important issue for Florida, which suffers from a shortage of fresh water. The light tone of the roof, its material - concrete - and the shading outlets help to avoid overheating and reduce the cost of cooling the store.
The positive aspects of the Florida climate are also taken into account in the project: a garden adjoins the store overlooking the square at the front entrance to the mall. Its teak trees, chairs and tables continue the typical Apple interior design that visitors will find inside. However, the specialty of the Aventura Mall store is the grandstand-steps in front of the large screen, where presentations and concerts can be held.
