“The release of the Department of Architectural Design in 2019 is one of the best in recent years. Architects from Spain, Great Britain and Italy, among others, received the defense of diplomas, the projects provoked interesting discussions and discussions: foreign colleagues expressed surprise at the volume and quality of our students' work. The chairmen of the examination commissions, honored architects Valery Kaplunov and Svyatoslav Gaikovich, also noted the high level of work and the resilience of students answering difficult professional questions.
The students worked on the concept of transforming two former industrial territories on the Vyborgskaya side. A community center was designed near the Kantemirovsky bridge, a residential complex and a school on the Sverdlovskaya embankment.
Now the renovation of the "gray belt" in the city is being done at the level of individual projects: no one has the resources and opportunities to approach the program comprehensively. We strove for an international standard, for consistency: we developed historical baselines, new functional zoning, transport schemes, formed architectural ensembles and specific objects. The teachers and students of the department interacted with the city administration and organizations that are engaged in the development of the master plan and transport systems.
The presented ten diplomas were especially noted by the examination committee, and also received high awards at competitions of the all-Russian and international level."

Multifunctional public complex
Dmitry Zinenkov
The concept is based on the principle of balance and permeability. The "heap" of historical brick volumes is balanced by the laconic forms of the new building, and they are also united by a transparent entrance group, common to different functional blocks. The building of the public-cultural center is a space for public gatherings and leisure of the local community. The core is the library - the territory of informal learning, acquaintance and communication of people.
The diploma was awarded as the best final qualifying work of SPbGASU in 2019.

Permeability is also important in this concept. In the glass volume of the foyer, the idea of visual interconnection of the inner area of the block and the Neva embankment is realized, the effect is enhanced by the reflective surface of the wide and flat roof.

The project is based on the idea of a variety of architectural and planning solutions of the complex, typologies of housing, apartment layouts. The separation of public and private territory is envisaged. The cantilever building is a visual reference point for the main walking routes in the quarter.

The residential complex along the Sverdlovskaya embankment occupies part of the territory of the Leningradsky Metal Plant and is adjacent to the historical buildings of the former workshops. This architectural solution preserves the “spirit of the place” and forms the public space of the embankment, complementing the existing historical environment.

As the second stage of residential development on the territory of the Leningradsky Metal Plant, the project complements the idea of creating a comfortable environment that has preserved the memory of the industrial past. The stepped solution of the facades is based on the general plan of the quarter and allows not only to diversify the silhouette, but also to increase the number of apartments overlooking the river and the city center.

The author strove for a variety of architectural solutions and apartment layouts - the project provides for the use of a mixed typology of housing. The complex also forms an embankment and is a visual landmark. The architectural solution is in harmony with the historical objects of brick industrial architecture.

The buildings of the residential complex form a single volume, solved by a simple closed form. The characteristic features are given by the variable number of storeys and architectural and planning accents in different parts of the house, referring to the already well-known RC "Four Horizons", which is located further along the Sverdlovskaya embankment.
