Lake Volkusha is located near the town of Lytkarino, just six kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road towards Zhukovsky Airport. The lake was formed on the site of a sand pit, which was famous for its pure quartz sand. The pleasant coast, clear water, pronounced relief and salubrious air of the adjoining Tomilinsky forest park made the place popular not only among residents of Lytkarino. In recent years, during the swimming and skiing season, more and more Muscovites have come here, which the locals are not very happy about - a lot of garbage remains, the water is polluted.
Team
Ai Architects has set itself the task of transforming the area around the lake into an "environmentally friendly and energy efficient year-round forest park with modern infrastructure." According to Ivan Kolmank, partner and head of the bureau, “the park needs new users who need to be attracted and retained”.
First of all, the architects plan to prepare the local population: tell about the project and listen to opinions, involve them in the improvement, starting, for example, with garbage collection.
The territory will be renewed gradually and delicately. The park will have a main entrance with columns-trunks and art objects made of glass made from local quartz sand. The existing staircase-descent to the water will remain in the same place, but it will look completely different: it will turn into a wooden amphitheater with ramps and pavilions of cafes on terraces. A wooden deck path will connect several beaches and facilities located on them: a summer cinema, a stage, a boat and fishing pier, a bicycle rental office, which in winter turns into a ski base, a playground, barbecue areas and modular saunas.
On one and the "upper" sites, tents will be installed, which can be rented out for celebrations and conferences.

A separate circular route will start from the eco-school: along it there will be information stands, places for secluded recreation. They plan to conduct excursions and quests, as well as lectures on ecology and gardening.

It will be possible to spend the night on the lake: for this, one of the most secluded beaches will be given for glamping - a tent camp with the comfort of a hotel. For the "tents" the architects chose a trapezoidal shape: to create a place for storing things, and through the glazed roof one could see the sky. Later stages of the improvement will include a yoga area with removable stoles, a soccer field and a rope park.

Specialists from YOarchitects helped create a program of socio-cultural content of the future park, and the Zoloto Group company developed the branding of the territory. “Spruce forest, the name of the lake - Volkusha, its shape, trapeze tents - all these images are reflected in the logo. It will be used on flags, corporate documents, souvenirs and navigation systems,”said Ivan Kolmanok.
