Each island of St. Petersburg, as, indeed, it is necessary for the islands, has its own character. To simplify to one word, Zayachy is historical, Krestovsky is elite, Elagin is green, Kamenny is neoclassical, and Petrovsky is a business class. There are also "industrial" islands - white spots on the city map, because getting to them is not quick, or the territory is half-closed - behind the walls of red-brick factories they are still producing something. These islands have their own otherworldly life, year after year they get into graduation projects and lists of non-trivial attractions. But only after the construction of the western high-speed diameter the chance for successful gentrification for one of them, Gutuevsky, ceased to be illusory. What can not be said about the neighboring Kanonersky, to which the highway only added entropy.

At first glance, Gutuevsky seems unsuitable for living, but the more you immerse yourself in his toponymy, the faster the flight of fantasy. For many years the island was empty, as evidenced by the first names: Unsettled, Shrub. In the middle of the 18th century, it was bought by the shipbuilder Konon Hugtunen, a trading port was transferred here from Kronstadt, which is still functioning, and life began to boil. Hotels, taverns, warehouses of merchants Eliseevs, manufactories - cloth, paper spinning, alcohol refinery - all these are examples of first-class red brick architecture recognized as heritage sites, among the authors - Julius Benois and Konstantin Niman, who built the famous Pel pharmacy, were opened.

Soviet buildings also contributed to the romantic port context of the place. Along the most inhabited Dvinskaya street are the University of the Sea and River Fleet, the constructivist house of culture for sailors, an Empire dormitory for the wives of sailors. Between them are the Khrushchevs and several high-rise buildings of the late 1990s. The dominant feature of this part of the island is

The issue of dimensions in the historical part of St. Petersburg is one of the main issues when evaluating new projects. The forecast for Gutuevsky Island is almost inevitable compaction and upward growth, the house takes into account the wishes of the customer and the height regulations. And since the site leaves room for "maneuver", the bureau "A. Len" was able to provide for discussion at the City Council

three options differing in volumetric-spatial solution and facades' plasticity. The experts chose the option most tactful in relation to the Epiphany Cathedral. According to Sergei Oreshkin, the bureau will conduct additional research and surveys from quadcopters to take into account all important points of perception.

Out of all the contextual diversity, the architects chose the "layer" of the Soviet utilitarian period as the basis, striving to remain within the framework of the background architecture and preserving the integrity of the environment.

The structure of the house is three-part. The base is a darker ground floor with a gallery of built-in rooms. The next six residential floors in light gray, which should soften the deep shadows of the counterlight, are perceived from Dvinskaya Street as a simple rectangular volume. The eighth floor with specific apartments and terraces is shifted to the edges of the “flanks” farthest from the street, leaving space for the perception of the church. The orientation of the terraces is still under discussion: there is more light from the south side, and a more picturesque panorama unfolds from the north.

The facade mesh, plastic due to small protrusions and recesses, is complicated by a slight displacement of some windows, which divides the main volume of the building into two three-storey parts, as well as color inserts and a combination of different textures. The house belongs to the category of "comfort", which once again confirms the customer's faith in the potential of the place. They plan to use expensive materials: for the basement floor, the project involves rusticated ceramic panels with wood-like inserts, for the upper floors they will use beige-gray facing tiles, and windows and stained-glass windows will be made of aluminum painted in graphite color. Balcony railings - a strict metal lattice.

The façade reflects the logic of the internal structure: almost all layouts for this house were developed according to the Ideal Apartments program, therefore the nomenclature turned out to be diverse. Wide openings appear exactly where it is needed - that is, in common rooms or dining rooms. Corner windows, a rare reception for modern houses, seriously affect the zoning of the room and at the same time give good light and a panoramic view.

The courtyard opens to the south, which allows the largest number of apartments to be filled with natural light. In addition, it is likely that over time, a common green area with neighboring houses will form. The parking is underground, and the developer has also signed an agreement with the city to participate in the construction of a school and a kindergarten.
