A residential building will be built in the Sosnovka area, next to the Utkina creek - the latter should have been heard by many from the song of Boris Grebenshchikov, which indirectly informs about the marginal atmosphere of the area. As you might guess, there used to be a pine forest here, from which a hefty piece has survived - the territory of Alexander Chernov's dacha, given over to Radio Center No. 3 and, accordingly, closed.

The microdistrict, in which the building site is located, overlooks the Oktyabrskaya embankment - this is the former town of "Light for Workers" at the state district power station "Krasny Oktyabr", consisting of "German" three-storey houses of the 1920-1930s, Khrushchev and slightly higher "Stalin" …

In this part of the city, the right bank of the Neva, in contrast to the left, where megalithic sizes have grown

residential complexes, while retaining a small scale and accompanying green streets and courtyards, not too crowded with cars. But gradually it also becomes denser. For example, in 2007, a 25-storey building was wedged into the quarter under consideration, and a little closer to the embankment, the Veren Studios-44 residential complex is being built. The house of Anatoly Stolyarchuk's workshop will be located on the third line from the embankment, in the very heart of the "town". This is the main reason for the difficulties encountered in the design.

So, the house is receding, but it will still be noticeable, since it will surpass the surrounding buildings in height by two or three times. Its configuration is the only possible solution to the problem with the given TEP and insolation conditions. Two sections face the embankment, another one goes deep into the quarter, together they form an L-shaped plan, which allows not to shade the apartments of neighboring houses. This arrangement, however, corresponds to the latitudinal orientation of the entire neighborhood. On a small "spot" it was possible to place a courtyard with playgrounds, a kindergarten for two groups - it occupies the entire first floor of the building with windows to the south, a pavilion for entering the underground parking and everything else that is included in the SNIP - driveways, indentations, ground parking and etc.

It is worth dwelling on this in such detail for the reason that working with areas that look like an unsolvable equation has become one of the "proprietary" tasks of Anatoly Stolyarchuk's workshop. A similar situation was with the house on Prilukskaya Street, the complex on Sofiyskaya and many others. As a rule, the result is a pure form, not suggestive of the excessive efforts with which it was necessary to "pull" a multi-storey building into a small area in the prevailing environment.

Facade solutions, again, are characteristic of the workshop - they are a response to the context and balancing with the help of rhythm and proportions, without verbatim quotations or imitations, in the language of modern architecture.

Architects interpret the L-shaped volume of the house as a two-layer one: it has a "base" of a neutral shade of gray, walls lined with panels of horizontal proportions in two tones, a little darker and a little lighter - and a light light fabric of glazed logs, which consist of white frames and glass. The "base" behaves extremely neutral, only on the spatial hinge of the corner appears a large modernist console with a stained-glass "TV", which, meanwhile, takes on the role of the main accent - a kind of "face" of the house: he thus looks past river towards the city center.

There is no entrance under the console, only the end of the built-in preschool educational institution, so the solution is not functional, but figurative, plastic, but in this case the key: it accentuates the corner, in particular for those driving along the embankment. The stained-glass "TV" is assembled from glazed loggias, the same as those that form the shading of large horizontals on the right and left of the facade, elongated along the embankment.

White loggias appear in the middle on the extended facades of the plates, they are grouped into vertical blocks of somewhere in three, and somewhere in five, and arranged in a checkerboard pattern: this is how the authors manage to avoid the notorious "thermometers", that is, vertical groups that Recently, they have become too recognizable - and, on the other hand, to give the facade a large expressive plasticity of protrusions - recesses and rhythmically organized chiaroscuro, at the same time providing each apartment with a full-fledged light volume, on average - a 6-meter area.

In the courtyard, where the verticals of the communication nodes are clearly visible, the rhythm is calmer, but new themes emerge - for example, a thin grid of white cells, and the multi-component of the building is felt more strongly.

It should be noted that chess compositions from loggias are becoming a characteristic feature of Anatoly Stolyarchuk's handwriting, it is not the first time he has worked with this topic, and each solution sounds different. For example, in a hotel on Veteranov Avenue, the chess pattern of glazed loggias and recesses is much denser, but it is diluted with lighting and brass trim. In the house on the Prilukskaya loggia, they are marked with thin verticals.

On Oktyabrskaya the balconies are almost cubic in shape and very articulated. In addition, the different heights of the "pillars" allow the house to respond to the surrounding buildings, to "absorb" its typology.

Anatoly Stolyarchuk believes that the modernization of old panoramas is inevitable, this process cannot be held back. And this has its advantages: the access roads will be reconstructed, the adjacent territory will be put in order, a kindergarten will appear. There is little doubt that a higher class house will give the area an impetus for development, as well as balance the high-rise developments that have already appeared.

About compaction as a boon a couple of years ago

argued the St. Petersburg office of MLA +: according to calculations, in the "body" of the city it is possible to build housing for about 77 million apartments. If this potential is used, Petersburg will not grow in breadth for another ten years. Consolidation, of course, should be correct: select and combine functions, comply with the norms and context. Before us is just an example of such a humane option: attentive to the context, no doubt a harmonious house, whose height, perhaps, is not such a drawback.
