We have been working with hatches since 2008 and when traveling around the capitals I have always paid attention to the arrangement of revision niches and storm sewers. Admiring the architecture and landscape, he managed to look under his feet with the gaze of a professional. Then I noticed that on the pavements of Switzerland, Italy, France and Spain there are square inspection hatches filled with stone.

In Russia, the paving stone market was just emerging at that time, so the rectangular shape was not in demand for concrete and asphalt pavement pavements. When the road clothes were changed to tiles, rectangular street hatches began to appear in the improvement of Moscow streets. This is how it appeared

Mechanism device

The product consists of a corner frame with a hinged lid. We cook the body from an equal angle corner 75 * 5, 90 * 6 or shape it from a strip into a profile 114 * 60 to form the depth of the tray for paving slabs h = 80. We bend the walls of the trough at an angle from the strip c, so that the door does not touch over the side of the frame base when turning on the axis of rotation. We put a steel sheet into the frame, cover it with a masonry mesh for adhesion of tile adhesive. We start up the beams from the bottom of the pallet, tying the profile and sheet. We collect the loop from the pipe 20 * 20.

We place the locking device with a lock in two corners. Plates 70x70 with a thread in a hole M12 In the closed state, they are pressed through the bushing by screws M10 with a countersunk head. The screws pull the lyada to the frame and close the sleeves from sanding and precipitation. Having removed the screws, we unscrew the pulling handles into the internal thread of the M12 flange hole, apply the primary force to start the mechanism of the gas pushers. The shock absorbers pick up the movement and lift the sash up to a vertical position, while the mass is transferred to the hinge axis. When the door is lowered into the leaf, as the center of mass moves to the trough, the gas lifts dampen the stroke, softening the closing.

One person is enough to open a hatch with external dimensions up to 700 * 700, models from 800x800 are safer to open together.

The basic model is produced from rough steel, primed with an anti-corrosion zinc-containing layer, covered with powder enamel with drying in an oven, then we apply a layer of varnish. For clients with increased requirements, we offer performance from stainless steels of grades AISI 304 and 316. Places of local heating from cutting and reconciliation are treated with etching paste to restore the chrome layer of the stainless steel.

Differences from analogs of imported production

European manholes are mostly removable, while ours recline on hinged lifts.

Calculate the mass of a stainless steel trough with glue and 60 paving stones measuring 1000x1000 in cleanliness. How many? 200 kg? To lift a monolithic slab, 4 people or mechanization are needed. For example: at complex fountains of a service organization, a daily bypass of units and communications of underground technical rooms is prescribed. Lifting such weights every day is not an easy task for service engineers, you must admit. Therefore, designers are trying to reduce the area (and, accordingly, the mass)

pavement hatches, as for example done in the well-known park of Krasnodar, where a main removable cover 1200 * 1200 is provided for servicing the fountain complexes for carrying technological equipment for rare openings by lifting equipment, and a small 700 * 700 is built into it for revision access. Or, for example, the opening 1400 * 750 is laid with two flaps 700 * 750, but in fact only one half of the manhole is used.

We also produce small-sized nomenclature with a removable trough, and in values from 600 * 600 we equip with a practical folding mechanism, we complete with auxiliary gas stops with a force from 700 to 2000 N to facilitate movement.

Recommended mounting technology

Contractors are guided by general recommendations with the implementation of technical solutions on site, depending on the existing bindings, the type of foundation and the degree of readiness of the object.

The body is not floating, it is exposed on a concrete bed or a prepared metal structure, taking into account the level of paving slabs. The mark on the height of the frame and the depth inside the light window is important: we need 7-8 cm of space for immersing the retainer and stiffeners in the presence of a standard plastic cover, for example, at cable wells for bridges and fountains; containers of grease traps.

Fastening to the floor slab or to the formwork is carried out by the method of concreting, anchoring into the frame shelf, or, if the expansion anchor must be removed from the edge at a distance of at least 55 millimeters, through the external fastening plates 70x40x4.

Next, we approach the outer walls with paving stones.

When choosing the length and width of the manhole hatch, one should be guided not only by the final dimensions, but also by the external ones, so that the frame coincides with the seams of the brick without cutting.

We continue paving in the cavity of the tray with glue, keeping the layout and paving lines. After filling and grouting the joints, the structure is ready for use.

How to choose the size of the hatch for filling

We offer standard solutions: for a stormwater well ∅ 700 in the ceiling of the chamber, model 800 * 800 is sufficient, for closing a flight staircase with a span of 1 meter, we assign a version in dimensions 1200 * 1200 with a finishing size of 1020 * 1020. Models with a step of 100 are taken as the standard nomenclature: 600 * 600, 700 * 700….1200 * 1200.

For individual cases, we will make a custom-made sewer hatch of a square or rectangular shape with reference to the light size of the manhole neck, the landing value of the metal frame.

On models in the range 1000-1200, we additionally put stops 2000N in order to:

maintain the driving performance of the hinged hoist,
distribute the load along the bottom of the sash, because the length of the base of the posts is longer than the nominal 700N.

We also increase the section of the assembly of the hinge assembly 25x25∅16.

We try not to take more than 1200 on the shoulder side, because the bearing capacity of the profile is not linear, we have to increase the total metal consumption, strengthen the frame base, the hinge connection, add the power of the gas stops: in a word, finding a balance on large dimensions is more difficult.

Invisible trapdoors in tiles on the sidewalk

Almost invisible, but there is no limit to perfection! The visible elements remain the ends of the metal parts of the frame, the flanges of the plates and the hinge shelf 2 cm. Visually, the drainage well merges with the canvas and does not spoil the look of the decorative paving, because the building is set at a level and is inscribed in the layout according to the territory improvement project. Concealed installation is an advantage over cast iron and plastic round covers. The sections of metal parts and assemblies are balanced taking into account loads, laboratory tests and real-life experience.

Moisture protection and tightness of street hatches

Beautiful and completely waterproof hatches do not exist, no matter what the enterprising salesperson may tell you! To achieve sealing it is required:

raise the box 300 mm from the ground,
carry out the departure and overhang of the door over the box,
make a bias,
install drainage trays of the storm sewer system around the frame,

and this is a completely different story….

An elastic tape seal is laid in the landing quarter of the head. The monolithic tray presses the entire mass on the sealing contour, additionally it is attracted by M10 screws with a lock. But still, we do not give guarantees that moisture will not seep out during the period of heavy rains or melt water. This may be due, for example, to leaks under the frame through joints with the concrete canvas due to improper installation.
