The multifunctional complex Match Point on Vasilisa Kozhina Street, the project of which we talked about three years ago, was designed by Nikita Biryukov on the site of the Bagration stadium. It consists of business class residential buildings and infrastructure necessary for a comfortable city life. The volleyball arena makes the complex unique in its own way - the structural core of the ensemble, which inherited the sports function of the territory.
The five-story indoor arena with 3,500 seats should serve as the new home for Moscow's Dynamo volleyball team. This fact opens up new prospects not only for the residents of the Match-Point residential complex, but also for the entire sports community of the capital. And if residential towers gravitate towards a respectable and popular group of developers and Art Deco buyers, then the architecture of the arena is quite modern.
The team of professionals from the architectural group ABV and the developer company Volley Grand managed to implement a beautiful and laconic solution: the glass cylinder of the sports facility is surrounded by thin white slats from the outside, reminiscent of the search for architecture of the seventies, the heyday of Soviet sports.
Lamellas are rhythmically placed in front of the glass façade. They mask the faceted structure of its surface, emphasize the stereometric cylindricality and integrity of the form. The lamellas are far enough away, but they are thin and, on the scale of the arena, look almost like the blade of a ceramic knife or the ends of paper sheets - which gives the solution, based on the search for classic modernism, a tangible shade of innovation.
The implementation of the architectural idea became possible thanks to the use of a classic finishing material - metal, or rather metal lamellas made up of cassettes made by GRADAS from 1.5 mm steel with a light coating
in our own high-tech production.
The fastenings of the sheets are invisible, the surface is flat and does not warp, the seams are of the same thickness and depth, the outer ends are accentuated by thin notches - their graphic underscores reinforce the theme of the vertical, but do not cancel the horizontal whirling of the facade arc, balancing on the verge of statics and dynamics.
The resulting building is consonant with its promising name - match point means a decisive point that gives a victory in a match, a victory point in a competition. This is how she looks: as if she is standing on a pedestal, restrained, but radiant.
