The Sallanche Water Sports Center is a 3,700 square meter complex with a capacity of 650 people, with four indoor pools, a wellness area, an outdoor solarium and spacious beaches.
The challenge for the architects was to create a structure of exceptional aesthetics and technical excellence, meeting environmental standards, and at the same time, within a tightly limited budget.
Thinking outside the box and inspired by the landscape of Mont Blanc, they presented an unusual facade with broken, rock-like elements.
The creators of the architectural agency BVL used the AQUAPANEL technology® to create an outstanding façade with diamond-like edges reminiscent of the breathtaking silhouettes of alpine peaks.
“We have chosen a system with AQUAPANEL® Cement slab Outside for its cost, finishing options and ease of use, recalls BVL architect Elia Antonio Tannuri. “We considered using composite glass cement, but that would be too expensive.”
Another advantage of the AQUAPANEL technology® became the possibility of implementing a creative idea. “It was not easy to create the façade edges that echoed the Mont Blanc massif,” continues Elia Antonio, “but after working on two layouts, we got the desired result.”
Facade work began with the installation of a metal frame.
Plates AQUAPANEL® were delivered and prepared to size already at the construction site. Then they were attached to the frame using specialized KNAUF accessories, without preliminary drilling.

Then, mineral decorative plaster was applied to the entire surface of the facade, including the diamond-like edges.
Due to the rapid availability of materials and their ease of use, not to mention the high level of technical support from Knauf AQUAPANEL specialists® at the stages of project planning and implementation at the construction site, the installation of the facade was completed on time - at the beginning of 2020.
