The British newspaper "The Guardian" even calls an unconfirmed figure of 705 m.
The tower will house offices, residential apartments, hotel rooms, shops and entertainment facilities. In plan, it will resemble the letter Y, the concave contour of the structure is designed to increase wind resistance. Construction will be completed by 2008.
While the tallest building in the world is considered the Taipei 101 tower (509 m), which took this title in April this year from the Malaysian Petronas Towers (452 m), built according to the design of Cesar Pelly. They, in turn, broke the 1996 record for the Sears Tower (442 m), designed by the same Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and completed in 1974.
Among the companies selected by Burj Dubai's customers for the construction work, the Saudi Binladin Group, a firm owned by the Osama bin Laden family, occupies a prominent place.
