The architects proposed to build a complex of 100,000 square meters in the Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung. m, whose project is inspired by the banyan tree found on this island, also called the “grove tree”. The multi-level roof of the building will be partially used as a park for the recreation of the townspeople, also providing natural cooling of the building, which is especially important in a subtropical climate. There will also be an open air theater.
A concert hall with 2,300 seats, an opera house with 2,000 seats, a traditional auditorium with 1,000 seats and an experimental theater without a stage such as "Black Box" for 500 people are planned inside the Center.
The building will be erected in Weiying City Park with an area of 65 hectares, where it will occupy a plot measuring 200 x 160 m.
The second and third places in this architectural competition were taken, respectively, by the Japanese bureau Kiyoshi sy Takeyama + Amorphe and Zaha Hadid.
