The jury, chaired by Mario Botta, recognized this option as the best, as it most thoughtfully connected the new wing of the building with the historic Victoria Palace, as well as for its clarity and functionality. The old and new parts of the complex are closely interconnected; due to the reconstruction, the area of the building will double: from 23 to 46 thousand square meters. m.
Wing plan de Architekten Cie. in the form of the Latin E completes the volume of the existing palace, and two courtyards are formed between them.
A diagonal passage passes through the new structure, connecting all its levels. Themed winter gardens and open-air islets of greenery are set up at different points. Each of them represents a separate province of Romania.
The main façade of the new wing is faced with the same stone as the old building, but in this case it is a mosaic of polished and raw blocks.
