Hambach played an important role in the political history of Germany and Europe: in 1832 the "Hambach Festival" was held there - a political manifestation of the liberal bourgeoisie. Those gathered demanded the return of constitutional freedoms, taken away after Napoleon's defeat, and advocated the creation of a nationwide Federal Republic (at that time the country was divided into several independent states). It was then that the yellow-red-black German flag was first used in Hambach.
The castle was already in ruins at that moment, but at the end of the 20th century. it was restored, and in 2005 reconstruction began according to the project of Dudler. The opening of the restaurant marks the end of its milestone.
According to the architect, the measures taken by him should only emphasize the historical core of the castle (the oldest parts of it belong to the Middle Ages), clearing it of later layers. As a result, the spatial and chronological basis of the structure is better read.
The restaurant itself is located on the south side of the castle. Its discreet rectangular shape is faced with unpolished sandstone, which visually connects it with the historical walls of the building.
