This complex will be one of the sports facilities built for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
The project, called the "water cube", uses a game of stereometric volumes of water bubbles forming a crystalline rectangular shape.
The outline of the building is in harmony with the rounded Main Stadium of the future Olympics, designed by Herzog & de Meuron.
The center will be used both before and after the games as a multifunctional leisure and elite swimming center.
The "skin" of the building will be made of a new material - ultra-light and transparent Teflon (ETFE), which will react in a special way to lighting and image projection. The very structure of the building, despite its organic appearance, is a simple steel frame, consisting of two parts: the inner one, hidden in the thickness of the walls and roof, and the outer one, which forms the floors and is the basis for the Teflon shell.
The swimming center will reach an area of 70,000 square meters. m and will be designed for 17,000 spectators.
