The Australian bureau won a related architectural competition, with Wilkinson Air and Arup Chief Engineer Cecil Belmond, along with sculptor Anish Kapoor, competing in the final.
A double-winged aluminum drop-off bridge with a 60m central mast will link the city center to the Wanyard Quote harbor area, which is currently undergoing a 25-year regeneration and reconstruction program. The bridge deck is divided lengthwise into two parts: a wider, two-lane, for public transport, and 6-meter, for pedestrians and cyclists.
Both can be raised to provide a 40-meter passage for ships bound for Wyedught Harbor. When the bridge opens, its mast will be flanked by two deck sections; together they will form an almost sculptural composition reminiscent of the sails of modern racing yachts.
