The future building was named "CET Budapest", where CET is an abbreviation for Central European Time, Central European Standard Time, and also - "whale" in Hungarian. Both meanings are suitable for interpretation, because architects try to set a starting point for the era of a new, modern Budapest with their building, and also find in it a resemblance to a whale.
The elongated "body" of the steel-framed glass structure will be located in a historic 19th century warehouse complex. Kozraktarak, on the banks of the Danube. CET Budapest aims to visually reveal the adjacent territories on the opposite bank of the river, where the Technical University of Budapest and the Gellért Hotel are located.
The curvilinear profile of the building reflects the urban planning situation of the surrounding area: its height grows in the direction from the city center (where a small square will be arranged) to the National Theater and the MuPa Cultural Center.
CET Budapest is due to open by 2010.
