The Mary Rose sank in 1545 in a battle with the French in the Solent, near Portsmouth. In 1982, it was raised from the day of the sea and exhibited in a structure specially built for this purpose in the city harbor. Now this building is dilapidated, so it was decided to build a new museum for the ship, where optimal storage conditions would be created for the wooden ship.

The design was complicated by the environment of the future building: next to the construction site in the dry dock is the famous ship of Admiral Nelson "Victory". In order not to distract attention from him, the new museum will be half hidden underground. Its volume, which, according to the architects, resembles both a jewelry box and a traditional British boat shed, will be sheathed with galvanized panels and dark wood. Its rounded shape will follow the plan of the historic dry dock that will serve as its foundation. Inside, the skeleton "Mary Rose" will be placed, fenced off from visitors by glass to maintain the necessary microclimate around it. Also, the museum will display guns and other items that were on the ship at the time of its death.
