The building was erected in the city of Culrow, the center of the county of the same name, on the territory of St. Patrick's College. It combines not only 4 exhibition halls of the VISUAL center, but also the Bernard Shaw Theater for 350 spectators.
Its key element was the Main Gallery - a white hall with ceilings 12 m high, 28 m by 16 m in size. Such spacious exhibition spaces are rare in Ireland, so the opening of VISUAL should attract large national and international exhibitions with large-sized exhibits to Culrow. The architectural composition of the 3-storey building is built around the volume of this gallery, which dominates over the rest of the building.
The other three halls are not alike in terms of their solutions and functions. Nodovaya differs from the deliberately faceless Main by the rich texture of its interior: it combines openings in the ceilings, rough and polished concrete, transparent glass of a panoramic window open to the garden over the entire wall. The studio gallery can be isolated from the rest of the building and used as a workshop for the artist working in the center: it has a separate entrance. The digital gallery is a black box space designed for video art and similar types of contemporary art.
Also around the Main Gallery are the lobby spaces (rough concrete and dark wood) and the Bernard Shaw Theater, the foyer and hall of which are designed in red tones.
The façades of the building are composed of frosted glass panels, a neutral material that blends in with the gray limestone of the urban setting and allows softened sunlight to penetrate the interior. In the dark, the building is planned to be illuminated from the inside.
