These bridges are intended for pedestrians and cyclists who now find it difficult to navigate the canal-cut Christianshavn. After their construction, this territory will become generally more accessible to the townspeople, but the local owners of sailing yachts are against this plan: in their opinion, even drawbridges (and both Feichtinger's projects are just such) will nullify the active movement on water, which is now characteristic of this part of the city. …
However, the authorities intend to open the bridges as early as 2012. The first of them will be erected at the "water crossroads" of the main Christianshavn canal and the Trangraven canal. It will connect one corner of it with two others at once and in the plan will have the shape of the letter Y. Its parts diverging in different directions can be raised both separately and simultaneously: the architect compared their movement with the flapping of the wings of a butterfly.
The second bridge, across the Proviantmagasingraven Canal, is much more modest in size. When the vessel passes under it, both halves of it can be lifted, and not one "flap", as in the double bridge, but in both of them the lifting mechanism is based on the action of hydraulic cylinders.
