Project architect Keith Williams attempted to restore the historical structure of the development, which suffered greatly from new construction in the 1960s and 1970s. A single block will be erected on the site of the existing parking lot, which should become the "center of gravity" for the adjacent streets. This is especially important because we are talking about the central part of the city, which is part of the Roman walls that have survived to this day; nearby is a 12th century Gothic cathedral.
The museum building, faced with light-colored artificial stone, will coexist with a brick residential building with 26 apartments, the construction of which will provide funding for the construction of the museum.
Remains of Roman baths of the 1st century BC will be available for inspection in the lobby of the museum. n. e., found at this site in the 1970s. They will be part of an exposition dedicated to the history of Chichester, and above them there will be three tiers of exhibition halls. Also, on an area of 1,300 m2, a storehouse, laboratories, a workshop and an educational center with a library will be set up. From the upper tier of the building, a view of the cathedral will open.
The project budget is 7.9 million pounds. The new museum is due to open in 2011.
