The creative union of the famous Estonian composer living in Berlin and Norwegian architects took place within the second phase of the stillspotting nyc project of the Guggenheim Museum (loosely translated as “islands of tranquility in New York”). The essence of the idea is to find points in the ever-awake metropolis where New Yorkers, exhausted by the hustle and bustle, could find peace and tranquility, giving rest to the congested senses (mainly sight and hearing). These “islets” (stillspots) are created every three to five months with the participation of architects, designers, composers and philosophers.

This September, stillspots will feature minimalist music evangelists Arvo Pärt and Snohetta, who created To a Great City. To do this, in the Lower Manhattan area, around the "zero level" (the former location of the World Trade Center, destroyed on September 11, 2000), the architects chose five points where Pärt's works will be performed - in particular, in Battery Park, as well as in the underground complex of the historical park on Governors Island. The authors hope that in these quiet, secluded places, visitors will be able to "reset" their senses.

Excursions to the islands of tranquility will be organized on September 15-18 and September 22-25, from 11 am to 7 pm. Participation will cost $ 10. Everyone who buys a ticket will receive a card and a bracelet that will serve as a pass. Traversing all five stillspots will take from an hour to three, depending on the route chosen: each of the points can be visited repeatedly, finding out how stress, time of day or appetite affects the perception of music and space.
