The organizers of the competition believe that transport hubs of any type in all countries are often unattractive and inconvenient, and they have to be used often and for a long time. The participants were asked to "refine" the Malmi railway station in the Finnish capital, and the main condition was the use of fiber cement as the main material.
First place went to a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at Lund University Selime Osman and architect and designer Ilyas Awadh from Sweden. Their Papilio project involves decorating the station with multi-colored three-dimensional fiber cement triangles that resemble a flock of butterflies.
The second was the Swedish bureau Arklab Sthlm, which named its project "Malmi Waffles". It is based on the usual corrugated sheets for roofing, which are proposed to be cut into strips and strung on metal rods. The resulting openwork walls can be used to decorate kiosks, fence green spaces, etc.
Russian architects Maxim Bataev and Anna Suprunova won the third prize with the MDSUPR project. The platform overlaps they invented, like the works of other laureates, are based on a modular principle. Zigzag stripes resemble flying seagulls or clouds, at the same time, their appearance captivates with the clarity and clarity of lines and functional potential.
