In addition to the winners, David Chipperfield, Kengo Kuma, BIG, Snohatta and Stephen Hall also qualified for the final. The task was to integrate the museum into the space of a botanical garden in the center of the Danish capital.
At the same time, most of the areas should be located underground, bending around the roots of old trees, and outside - numerous historical buildings of the garden - economic and administrative buildings, greenhouses.
The main premises of the museum will be the Hall of Whales with the skeleton of a blue whale - the largest animal on Earth. Its translucent facade will be visible from the street from behind the gateway building of the late 19th century, and in the dark, passers-by can admire the huge exhibit inside.
It is also planned to open for all the passage through the museum and the territory of the botanical garden, which will shorten the path for pedestrians.
Construction is scheduled for 2013-2017, with a budget of DKK 1.1 billion (EUR 147.6 million).
