The Waver armchair is the first collaboration between Vitra and designer Konstantin Grcic.
The original idea of Waver was to free the chair from conventions and well-known "chair" typologies: the person sitting in this chair is like in a hammock, which is suspended inside a curved steel frame. Despite its lightweight construction, the Waver offers a high level of comfort.
The fabric back has a comfortable cut that at the same time supports the body and leaves it with the necessary degree of freedom. The tubular steel frame is curved to give freedom of movement and its flexibility is reminiscent of a cantilever chair without back legs. This freedom, combined with the presence of two cushions - one for the seat and one for the head - provides comfort comparable to that of classic upholstered furniture. Energetic, trendy fabric colors, open fittings and functional elements underline the sporty look of the chair. Thanks to its weatherproof, waterproof materials (steel, plastic, polypropylene), the Waver chair can be used on a terrace, garden or patio, or in the home.
Konstantin Grchik (born 1965) lives and works in Munich. The designer designs furniture, industrial design products, exhibition pavilions for well-known companies, participates in architectural projects. Waver is the first product created jointly by Vitra and Konstantin Grczyk. Sources of inspiration for the designer are windsurfing and paragliding, sports that use lightweight and durable sports equipment. The chair was first presented at the April exhibition Salone Internazionale del Mobile, which was held as part of i Saloni Milano - 2011.
