EcoMaterial is a rating standard for evaluating building materials. EcoMaterial is a voluntary environmental standard designed to assess the quality and environmental aspects of building materials. The standard is compiled on the basis of legislative acts of the Russian Federation, ISO 14024, advanced developments of the World Health Organization, recommendations of international organizations on "green building", DGNB, BREEAM and LEED standards.

Wienerberger Kirpich LLC, a subsidiary of Wienerberger AG, has been operating on the Russian market since 2003. Today, about 300 people work at three Wienerberger factories, the company is one of the largest manufacturers of ceramic wall materials in Russia.

According to the results of a comprehensive inspection of Porotherm and production in the village of Kiprevo with a visit to the plant and independent laboratory studies of selected samples, Porotherm brick has successfully passed the audit and is recognized as a "green" building material, safe for humans.

The EcoMaterial environmental standard is divided into three sections. The first section "Sanitary and hygienic aspect (impact on human health)" assesses how safe the material is for humans. Radiological, electromagnetic, chemical, toxicological measurements and laboratory tests are carried out. The second section assesses the complex impact of the material and its production on the environment. The third section "Environmental responsibility of the manufacturer" contains criteria for promoting green solutions and trends, supporting social eco-projects, etc. The standard contains mandatory requirements, failure to comply with which entails a refusal to issue a certificate, and additional points for the fulfillment of which the certified material receives points.

The standard was developed over several years and then corrected and improved. Researchers from research institutes and laboratories, independent experts were involved in the development. As a result, version 1.3 is currently in effect. in which more attention is paid to aspects of the product life cycle and the environmental performance of manufacturing plants. EcoMaterial evaluates not only the material and declarations, like many markings, but also verifies the submitted documents and statements - going to the factories with an audit, evaluates the dynamics of the plant: calculates indicators for emissions, discharges, energy efficiency. More than 27 types of products (brands) and more than 65 types (names) of building materials are certified according to the standard.

This year, the right to use EcoMaterial marking was also received by products from ROCKWOOL (Plant in Alabuga), NLK Domostroenie (Sokolsky DOK), Quick-mix (Noginsk), Aerobel (Belgorod).

To date, Ytong, a group of brands Saint-Gobain, Bayer, Velux, Ursa, EUROCEMENTHoldingAG and others have already been labeled EcoMaterial.

With about 230 factories in 30 countries, Wienerberger is the world's largest manufacturer of ceramic bricks and the leading manufacturer of roofing tiles in Europe, and Wienerberger is also the leader in concrete pavers in Central and Eastern Europe. Wienerberger is a public company founded in 1819 with 12,000 employees worldwide.
