The competition for the concept of a new building for the NCCA aroused quite a lot of interest. We remind you that the winner in the end was the Irish bureau Heneghan Peng Architects and we publish drawings: plans and sections of the projects of the three finalists. And also - the comment of the general director of KB Strelka, the company-consultant of the competition, Denis Leontiev:
“It is important to understand that Khodynskoe Pole, the location of the future museum, is the point of the planned large-scale new construction. In parallel with the NCCA museum and exhibition complex, a shopping center, a park, a hotel, residential and office buildings are being erected and designed here. A hybrid environment is being created where a wide variety of functions are mixed: cultural, commercial and residential. Often, this neighborhood is the catalyst for the emergence of a vibrant and bold architecture. An example of this is the Guggenheim-Hermitage space in Las Vegas, created by Rem Koolhaas, located in a complex with a hotel and casino. The competition for the new NCCA is an aspiration to look at the city, a combination of functions and architectural forms in a modern spirit."
