Projects on the theme "Settlement" were developed by the 6th group of the 3rd year students of the Moscow Architectural Institute of the Department of "PROM" in the shortest possible time - in just one month. Specific sites on the Black Sea coast were selected as design sites. As one of the teachers of the group, Vsevolod Medvedev, said, the idea to design in areas with difficult terrain and many design restrictions was expressed by one of the students, Polina Yavna, who herself was born and raised in such places. Fellow students willingly supported the idea, and a month later various and daring projects appeared, born in daily discussions and consultations with teachers and students' interaction with each other.
Students were offered five functional themes: residential education in an urban environment, a health-improving village, a residential village with a gambling zone, an officer's town or a base of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as well as a wine-growing village … Each of the proposed topics is interesting in its own way. Thus, the health resort village has a health resort and medical area that require a separate careful study. The officer camp should include two residential areas and a training camp. In a village with a gambling zone, a developed social and entertainment infrastructure with hotels and casinos should have been envisaged. Finally, the wine-making village differs from the rest by the presence of an industrial territory, into which residential education is organically interwoven. The students were faced with the task of developing in detail a fragment of residential development, a diagram of the potential development of the territory, integrating 3D models into the existing environment and writing a project concept.
Based on the results of the work done, an online competition was held, which determined the five strongest projects and one winner of a special prize from JSB "Fourth Dimension". This time the work of Polina Korochkova was recognized as the best.
Top five
First place. Polina Korochkova. "Residential village" Castel "with a gambling zone"
The village is located on the coast, at the foot of Mount Castel, on a steep slope, where the author of the project proposes to locate the zone of hotels and casinos relatively close to the residential area. Such a seemingly dubious neighborhood becomes possible due to a significant difference in elevation, which almost completely isolates one part of the village - noisy and tourist, from the other - a quiet and closed residential area. At the same time, the difficult terrain does not interfere with orienting the windows of the overwhelming majority of residential buildings on the sea.
The gambling zone, which includes a complex of hotels with casinos built into their ground floors, is, according to the project, placed directly above the water surface: the buildings stand on piles right in the water. The author of the project compares hotels with “huge sails of yachts moored to the shore”. The steep slope of the mountain is carved into the volumes of restaurants, public spaces and parking lots. The piers are aligned with the piers. A wide embankment stretches along the coastline above the motorway, which not only unites all hotels into a single complex, but also connects the gambling zone with a residential area, turning into a pedestrian alley.
Second place. Polina Yavna. "Healing and health-improving village" Quiet Bukhta"
The project is based on the idea of maximum preservation of the natural landscape and vegetation of the unique natural complex of Tikhaya Bay. The bay, located in the lowland, is sheltered from all sides from strong sea winds, so this site is well suited for placing a residential village here. In addition, on this territory there is a deposit of curative mud-keel, which led to the emergence of a therapeutic and recreational function.
The layout of the village is made in the form of circles of different diameters, delicately integrated into the landscape and united by a beautiful smooth system of roads and streets. Various functions and types of buildings are grouped within each circle. This is a large community center, a sports block, a health and wellness complex, a diverse residential area, a townhouse zone, and even a sector of private estates. A pier was created along the coastline, while the beach was left untouched, wild, in order to preserve the natural landscape.
Third place. Yana Ostapchuk. "Residential village" Fiolent"
The main idea of the project is to keep the cape plateau intact, in its original form with a unique natural landscape and species perspectives. The residential village is located on Cape Fiolent, a significant part of which was decided to be occupied by a large park, open not only for residents of the village, but for everyone who wants to admire the natural beauty of this place. The main development of the new settlement continues the planning line of the existing urban structure, concentrating on the edge of the cliff and gradually descending down to the sea.
There are six high towers along the cliff, each floor of which is set aside for the placement of an individual estate plot with an area of 0.5 hectares. Only the first levels of these towers are dedicated to public functions. Each tower provides access to the pier. Townhouses and middle-rise houses are located in the northern part of the village. As conceived by the author, the building here serves as a conditional barrier for a spontaneously advancing city.
Fourth place. Polina Moskalenko. "Officer town" Donuzlav"
According to the author of the project, the layout of the residential part of the village is based on a pattern of army camouflage with many polygonal cells, inside which all residential and public buildings are collected. This solution contributes to the creation of a more complex and scaled living environment against the background of a rather harsh natural environment. The beach, which is included in the village, is proposed to be landscaped, to organize a wide pier, an embankment and a large natural park. At the same time, the new public spaces are designed for residents not only of the military town, but also of the dacha cooperative located nearby.
The military unit has a more strict and rational layout. It was designed on the site of a previously existing but disbanded air base. The project provides for the partial restoration of the lost infrastructure. In addition, it is proposed to reconstruct the existing, but very outdated boarding house located next to the projected residential community, requiring a rethinking of the space-planning solution and the adjacent territories.
Fifth place. Elena Shilova. "Base of the Ministry of Emergency Situations" South Spit"
The village is located on the coast of the South Spit - a unique natural complex with rare flora and a beautiful sandy beach. A drying estuary approaches the design site from the east. In this regard, the layout of the village has a pronounced curved shape, repeating natural lines.
The entire territory is divided into three functional blocks: residential areas, a training camp and a dilapidated summer cottage area that illegally occupies the northern part of the military unit, which is proposed to be reconstructed. All three blocks are interconnected by a system of transport and pedestrian roads. There is a park with walking alleys inside each building segment; cars do not have access to this territory. Each sector has its own access to the promenade and the beach.
