Projects and objects under implementation are accepted for the competition, which are evaluated in three nominations: "Knauf materials in the interiors of residential buildings", "Knauf materials in the interiors of public buildings" and "KNAUF - AQUAPANEL® facade systems". Applications for participation in the competition are accepted until September 1, 2014.

In accordance with the nominations of the competition, the jury will consider projects for the interiors of apartments, individual houses, residential complexes; projects of business centers, shopping centers, sports facilities, social and cultural facilities: kindergartens, schools, theaters, cinemas, exhibition halls, etc., as well as projects of residential and public buildings that are supposed to be used for finishing the facades of the Knauf system: "AQUAPANEL® Exterior Wall" or "AQUAPANEL® Curtain Wall System". The total area of residential buildings must be at least 100 m2, and the area of public - not less than 1000 m2.

The reason for organizing a competition with the use of Knauf products, which for decades has been one of the most demanded in construction, was, among other things, the appearance on the market of new materials and complete technological systems of Knauf.

Among these new products is the KNAUF AQUAPANEL® Outside Wall complete facade system. The system is an external enclosing wall panel with a unique combination of advantages such as economy, environmental friendliness and ease of use, the quality level of which is higher than conventional brick or block wall structures.

High utilitarian and technological characteristics of KNAUF complete systems are combined with excellent shaping capabilities, as evidenced by numerous positive reviews from architects and designers who have gained experience in using these materials in their facilities. At the same time, the breadth of the range of use of Knauf systems is invariably noted - external and internal walls, ceilings, floors, partitions and other interior elements in objects of various functional purposes. Here are just a few examples showing the freedom in making design decisions provided by complete Knauf systems.

The team of authors was faced with the task of creating a non-standard and united space for communication, where 50-60 people could gather at the same time - friends of the owner of the apartment. Therefore, the planning scheme included public areas - a living room and a kitchen, as well as private rooms, the presence of which is not striking for guests. This design solution is inspired by the image of a big city, in which open spaces of avenues and squares are adjacent to quiet streets, where the beat of the rhythms of the big city is not felt.

The client wanted to get the interior in the form of "a broken space with elements in the Gaudi style … devoid of obvious, readable images." It was possible to achieve the desired by giving the interior the meaning of a complex plastic composition with accents in the form of avant-garde art objects.

To implement the project idea in the interior, Knauf drywall, complete with a profile and other system elements, was widely used. These materials were used for leveling planes, performing embossed wall decoration and creating art objects. In particular, in the kitchen, the walls acquired a complex multi-level surface, which was then covered with black leather. In the living room, the "oil drop" on the ceiling is also made of plasterboard. In the same place, a plastic composition was created in the form of a tree passing into the ceiling, revetted with plasterboard Knauf sheets.

Team of authors: I. Sedakov (KB ViPS LLC), J. Diamond, M. Lukasik, M. Trecy (Diamond and Schmitt Architects Incorporated)

The second stage of the Mariinsky Theater has already become one of the most technologically equipped theater and concert venues on the planet. The idea of a restrained laconic appearance of this monumental building arose in the context of the development of the style of constructivist minimalism.

Large areas of glazing of the facades are designed to open the theater to the city, so that people passing and passing by have a desire to look inside the stage space. When creating the structural elements of the interior and the basis for the decorative finishing of the auditorium, the large hall and other premises of the Second Stage building, a rich palette of Knauf materials was used.

The internal structures are made on a metal frame with soundproofing made of mineral wool and two-layer sheathing of Knauf gypsum plasterboard sheets. The acoustic ceiling structure consists of approximately 500 elements cast from gypsum concrete. The preliminary treatment of the surfaces of ceilings and partitions was carried out with a KNAUF-Tiefengrund primer. The joints of the sheets and the attachment points of the decorative elements are treated with Knauf-Fugen putty.

For the cladding of walls and suspended ceilings to be finished using the Venetian plaster technique, AQUAPANEL® slabs were used, consisting of light fine-grained concrete, reinforced on the outside with fiberglass. Thanks to the reinforcement, the AQUAPANEL® board can bend without preliminary moistening with a radius of curvature of up to one meter. In the technical and rehearsal rooms, the following were used: Knauf-Rotband universal gypsum plaster and Knauf-Betokontakt primer for processing weakly absorbent substrates for subsequent finishing with gypsum plaster.

Otkrytie Arena stadium in Moscow

Authors: S. Bailey, R. Feoktistov, M. Yudina, V. Goncharov

Otkritie Arena is the new stadium of the Spartak football club, located in the eastern part of the former Tushino airfield. The stadium is designed for the simultaneous seating of 44 thousand spectators and is part of a grandiose cluster, which includes a base for the preparation of sports reserves, as well as tourist infrastructure facilities.

The functional structure of the stadium includes 4 stands, of which only one is cast. Therefore, the project could not be implemented without the use of technological solutions that ensure the stability of the sports facility to aggressive environmental influences and, at the same time, to manifestations of vandalism. In this situation, the use of complete KNAUF systems based on AQUAPANEL® boards was recognized as the optimal solution, the use of which, according to the calculations of specialists, moreover, gives time savings reaching an average of 25%. As a result, during the construction of the facility, more than 30,000 AQUAPANEL® cement slabs were consumed, which were used in the construction of structures for cladding, including in the area of cold stands. When finishing all the entrance groups and in the zones of radial driveways, the system of a hinged ventilated facade with a cladding made of AQUAPANEL® Outside slabs was used.

In addition, moisture- and fire-resistant Knauf sheets and KNAUF metal profiles were used on the western stand and in the VIP zones for cladding ceiling structures and erecting partitions. In the premises of the press centers, the ceilings are faced with sheets of KNAUF-Acoustics.

As you can see, the materials and complete systems of Knauf make it possible to successfully cope with a wide range of tasks facing the participants in the construction process today. It is also important that Knauf products constantly find the widest application at facilities that require the adoption of non-standard, figuratively expressive architectural solutions. The First Open All-Russian Architectural Competition "Knauf Materials - the Choice of Architects!" Is aimed at identifying and popularizing such solutions.

The winners of the competition will be 26 authors of projects selected by the jury. The winners of the competition in the amount of 14 people will be awarded certificates for a trip to the International Architectural Forum, which will be held in Singapore. Another 12 winners of the competition will be awarded with Apple iPad mini tablets. An architect or an architectural bureau that has submitted the best project in 2014 for the competition will receive support from Knauf in presenting their work at the International Architectural Forum in 2015.
