The international competition for projects of residential modules for the YARKYFEST festival was held in two stages. During the first, the expert council considered more than 100 projects of residential modules from authors from around the world (India, Canada, China, Poland, South Korea, Ukraine, Great Britain, USA, Argentina, the Netherlands and Russia): architects and designers aged up to 35 years old. As a result, a shortlist of more than 30 projects was identified. From this number, at the second stage, the five best works were selected.

Competition Winner Projects

The projects of the five winners are to be implemented in spring - summer 2015 within the framework of the YARKYFEST festival. After its completion, it is planned to actively use all residential modules on the territory of the new creative space in St. Petersburg Yarky Hostel & Space. *** Camera House

NEON Bureau, London, UK

The authors consider the main two components of their project: the screen and the bed. Behind the screen, onto which the inverted image of the street landscape is projected, are hidden utilitarian interior items: a wardrobe, a sink, a TV and an entrance door. The bed here plays the role of a spectator's place and, along its perimeter, LEDs are built in. And behind the wooden paneling, which can be moved aside, there are openings - sources of natural light.

*** Fungi House

Miguel Carro, Hugo Rial; Madrid, Spain

This house looks like a shabby leather bag or flask, and a remez nest with several holes. There is no symmetry or right angles here, and due to its irregular shape it gives the impression of "miraculous" - as if a giant raincoat mushroom had grown in a clearing.

*** Yarky Hostel

Timofey Shapkin, Alan Dzhibilov; Moscow, Russia

The module is square in plan and looks like a white quartz crystal. For the walls, it is suggested to use 10 mm moisture resistant perforated plywood and transparent polycarbonate. In the daytime, sunlight enters in through a small window-edge of the roof. At night, thanks to the translucent walls, the module itself becomes an object of urban lighting.

*** "Doors"

Liza Brilliantova, Anton Yar-Skryabin; Saint-Petersburg, Russia

The module is a "dynamic" parallelepiped. All four of its walls entirely consist of shutter doors - this allows, firstly, to read the diagram of the supporting structures, and secondly, to arrange doors and windows where the tenant wants it at a given moment, for example, depending on the movement of the sun … Only the question arises: what if a bird flies in, or does someone else enter this dwelling?

*** "Cradle"

Studio "LES", St. Petersburg, Russia

Externally reminiscent of a toolbox, the wooden rocking house has one main function - it is a place to sleep. He brings his guest closer to nature: there you can experience for yourself how birds feel in the nests in the trees, which are shaken by the wind.
