The new building is located in the former industrial zone on the shores of the Baku Bay, next to the State Flag Square. In this place there was a small shipyard for ships servicing oil platforms - with a power station built by Siemens at the beginning of the 20th century. Initially, the customer wanted to demolish this interesting industrial monument and build a new building in its place, but the architects managed to persuade him to spare the building.
As a result, a museum will be opened in the historical station, and the “New Power Plant” (Elektra events hall), which, like its predecessor, consists of two volumes, has been erected nearby. The new station (a center for various events) is deliberately made similar to the old silhouette; titanium-zinc and the wood of the roof and walls also remind of the industrial past.
The roof is made of titanium-zinc from the German manufacturer RHEINZINK® by the local roofing company Sky Construction. Technique for the execution of the roof, part of the facade, parapets and framing - double standing seam. For cladding 5,486 m2 it took about 36 tons of RHEINZINK prePATINA schiefergrau (patinated dark gray).
Erginoğlu & Çalışlar also completed the improvement of the adjacent territory: now there is a park with outdated industrial equipment arranged like art objects.
The two parts of the new station are connected by a glazed bridge. The building houses a multifunctional space for concerts and other events, restaurants and bars, and a jazz club. A significant roof removal from the side of the entrance allows you to gather there even in bad weather.
