The idea of building a new aquarium on the Pacific coast appeared in 2005, but construction began only in 2010 as part of the region's preparation for the APEC summit in Vladivostok - then more than 100 objects were built and reconstructed in the region, including, in addition to the aquarium, two cable-stayed bridges and a new international airport. The concept of the building of the seaside oceanarium was developed by Primorgrazhdanproekt in collaboration with the Taiwanese Huang's Green Country Industrial Co. Ltd, which the designers call a "strategic partner".

The Oceanarium is not only an entertainment project, but also a scientific and educational center engaged in the study of the ocean and its inhabitants. The theme predetermined the bionic "sea" imagery: the building looks like either a bright blue wave, or a gate of a giant shell. It was not easy to embody the bionic forms of the building - there are almost no straight lines and angles, and at the same time there is quite a lot of glass. The facade series TP-50300 by TATPROF Company, which is suitable for vertical and inclined post-transom structures using glass, helped to integrate glass surfaces into the curved facades of the main building, the oceanarium itself. The curtain walls were attached to the load-bearing elements using steel and aluminum assemblies. Built-in structures have been integrated into them. The roofs are equipped with skylights.

But the main engineering task of the oceanarium building is the need to keep many tons of water inside, constantly maintaining tightness. In the exposition of the aquariums, 99 high-strength, non-distorting acrylic glasses with a thickness of 3 to 36 centimeters were mounted, their total weight is 204 tons.

To insulate the building, ROCKWOOL VENTI BATTS hard slabs made of stone wool were used with a total volume of more than 6000 sq. M. They ensured protection of the building from heat loss in the humid maritime climate of Primorye - basalt wool fibers are hydrophobic and repel moisture, and the ventilation facade systems, in the development and manufacture of which TATPROF was directly involved, make it possible to effectively remove residual moisture from the enclosing structures.
