The Hankook Technodome building has sprung up in Daejeon, the heart of Asia's Silicon Valley. The project aims to attract the most talented people in the industry to cooperation. An inspiring work environment has been created for them - with state-of-the-art labs, light-filled offices and dynamic spaces. All of this should promote communication, openness and innovation - key concepts of the new corporate culture of the Hankook brand.
The architectural concept of the technocenter is based on an elegant structure with a smooth silvery roof on thin supports that hide the main volume with a light glass facade of flexible outlines. Organizing and linking together such complex functional spaces turned out to be a difficult task, since the requirements for the use of complex equipment ranged from location in deep mines to installation in rooms with a second light. This is what determined the building plan, which provides visual connections between the various parts of the building and at the same time makes the space flexible enough for variable use. The level of heights in different zones ranges from four to six floors, which is due to the government facility located near the technology center.
Scientific laboratories and research facilities are grouped along a central axis running from south to north, from the main entrance and dining room to guest and staff accommodation. Along the entire space, perfectly illuminated due to the overhead light, there are snow-white "bowls" suspended - open areas-semi-capsules for meetings and workshops.
The spectacular lobby is used not only as an entrance area, but also as a showroom for new products. It also offers views of the test sites and the park area next to the tech center.
The building has a range of sustainable solutions that has earned it a LEED Gold Certification. Thus, the waste heat is used to heat the neighboring dormitory building for visitors and staff. And in the reservoir at the southern entrance to the territory, rainwater is collected, which is then used to cool the complex.
