Within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, President of the ROCKWOOL Group of Companies Jens Birgersson spoke at the panel session “Responsible for the goal: a benchmark for long-term business development in a modern economy”, where he spoke about the sustainable development strategy during large-scale urbanization, opportunities to reduce environmental impact and efficient use of resources.

The dynamically changing modern reality imposes special conditions on business as a driving force of the global economy. Focusing on the long-term perspective, it is necessary to make efforts to improve the quality of products and services provided.

The main topic of discussion of the panel session participants "Responsibly to the goal: a benchmark for long-term business development in a modern economy" was the implementation of sustainable development strategies and the formation of models of social responsibility of business.

In his speech, Jens Birgersson, President of the ROCKWOOL Group of Companies, noted that the population of large cities is rapidly growing in the world, which entails climate change, an increase in energy consumption, and an increase in noise pollution. These and other factors negatively affect the health, safety and overall quality of life of people.

The use of stone wool materials allows not only to reduce energy consumption to create a comfortable microclimate in houses, but also to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, about 50% of which comes from buildings. For example, non-combustible stone wool insulation produced in a year prevents about 5 million tons of CO2 emissions.

More than 20% of Europe's population is exposed to the negative effects of noise, which disrupts their sleep. To reduce the effect of annoying sounds on the ear, rooms must be protected from noise and vibration. The most effective way to ensure acoustic comfort is soundproofing with acoustic stone wool materials.

In addition, the growth of the population entails the problem of securing food supplies. According to forecasts, in 2050 the world will need twice as much food. The field of crop production requires the provision of water supplies. Using the technology of growing grain crops in a rock wool substrate, you can get three times more yield than when growing in ordinary soil. In addition, it allows you to plant the necessary crops in any convenient place, even on the roofs of buildings.

Within the framework of SPIEF, Jens Birgersson also holds a number of working meetings with the heads of Russian regions.

St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is the largest event in the field of business and economics. This year, the summit brought together 12,000 participants, including 39 foreign ministers and 870 company executives. More than 100 events will take place within the framework of the forum, the main of which will be a plenary session with the participation of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria Christian Kern, on Friday, June 2.
